1. Who can use TALK
TALK is intended only for people who are at least 18 years old. Do not use TALK if you are under 18.
2. Information we process
Account and authentication
TALK uses Clerk to provide account authentication. Clerk processes your email address, password, email-verification information, authentication credentials, and session information. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple and Clerk process the information needed to complete that sign-in. TALK stores an internal user identifier and the immutable provider identity needed to associate your account with your TALK data. When you confirm that you are 18 or older, TALK stores the date and time of that self-attestation so adults-only access can be enforced across your signed-in devices. TALK does not ask for or store your date of birth, and does not store your password in its application database.
Profile information
We store your display name and may store profile information you choose to provide, such as a biography or avatar reference.
Rooms, schedules, and participation
We store information needed to create and operate social rooms, including:
- room titles, room identifiers, host and moderator assignments;
- one-time or recurring schedules, time zones, and room status;
- session, membership, speaker, and listener records;
- join and leave times; and
- requests to talk and whether they were approved, declined, or cancelled.
The private Activity view uses this information to show you a limited history of your own rooms, participation, talk requests, and report outcomes.
Live voice
TALK uses LiveKit to transmit live microphone audio. Audio is sent only when you are an approved speaker and choose to unmute. TALK does not record room audio, create transcripts, perform speech recognition, or store voice content. TALK has no camera or video functionality.
Safety reports and moderation
If you submit a private report, we store the room or participant reported, the report category, the details you provide, relevant account and session identifiers, status, and timestamps. We also retain authorized reviewer actions, resolution notes, audit history, and limited report-pattern information used to identify repeated safety concerns.
Report details and internal review information are restricted to authorized human reviewers. TALK does not use AI to decide report outcomes or automatically punish, mute, remove, or suspend someone based only on a report.
Device and operational information
TALK stores a local onboarding-completion setting on your device and uses secure session storage for authentication. After successful adult self-attestation, TALK also stores a versioned, account-specific marker on your device containing your TALK authentication subject and the attestation completion time. This marker improves returning-user experience but does not authorize access without server confirmation. TALK does not actively collect precise or approximate location, camera data, photos, contacts, or an advertising identifier. Service providers may process IP addresses, device or SDK details, connection information, request timestamps, service logs, and security signals as needed to operate and protect their services.
3. How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- create and secure accounts and verify email addresses;
- confirm and enforce eligibility for TALK’s adults-only service;
- provide profiles, rooms, schedules, live voice, and participation controls;
- enforce speaker permissions and muted-on-join safeguards;
- show you your private account activity and report status;
- review safety reports and protect users and the service;
- prevent abuse, investigate failures, and maintain service security; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce applicable terms.
TALK does not display ads, use a device advertising identifier, track you across other companies’ apps or websites, or use your information for developer or third-party advertising. TALK currently has no active product-analytics SDK.
4. How information is shared
We do not sell personal information. We share information only as needed with service providers that operate TALK, including:
- Clerk, for authentication, email verification, and session security;
- LiveKit, for real-time voice transport and room connectivity;
- Apple, when you use Sign in with Apple;
- Expo and platform services, for app runtime, build, and distribution functions;
- hosting and database providers, for API hosting, storage, security, and operations.
These providers may process operational, security, device, and network information required to provide their services. We may also disclose information when legally required, to protect people or the service, or as part of a business transaction subject to appropriate safeguards.
5. Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information, including authenticated API access, server-side authorization, short-lived voice-room credentials, and restricted access to private moderation records. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Retention
We retain account and profile information while your account is active and as needed to provide TALK. Room, participation, and request-to-talk history may be retained to preserve room operation, account activity, integrity, and dispute records. Safety reports, reviewer actions, audit history, and abuse-pattern information may be retained longer when reasonably necessary for safety, legal compliance, and the prevention of repeated abuse.
The timestamp recording your 18+ self-attestation is retained with your account while needed to enforce adults-only access and meet safety or legal obligations.
You can permanently delete your account from Settings in TALK. When you do, we close your authentication account, remove your public profile information, clear your adult-attestation status, and prevent the deleted identity from accessing or recreating the TALK account. We retain a minimal identity tombstone and may retain de-identified room, participation, safety-report, moderation, and audit records when reasonably necessary to protect users, preserve decision integrity, comply with law, or resolve disputes.
Live microphone audio is transmitted in real time and is not recorded or retained by TALK as stored voice content. Service providers may retain operational or security logs under their own retention practices. When information is no longer reasonably needed, we will delete or de-identify it unless retention is required by law or necessary for security, fraud prevention, or dispute resolution.
7. Your choices and requests
You may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information associated with your TALK account. You may also ask questions about this policy or raise a privacy concern. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and some information may be retained where legally permitted or required for safety, security, fraud prevention, or dispute resolution.
Profile display-name corrections can also be made through the Profile screen in TALK. Account deletion is available directly from the Settings screen.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as TALK changes. We will post the revised policy with a new effective date and provide additional notice when required.
